Varanasi Soul Experience
About the experience
Varanasi doesn't ease you in. It's loud, it's crowded, it smells of marigold and woodsmoke, and within an hour of arriving you will have seen something you don't have a category for.

Asked every time
Do I need to be religious or spiritual for this?
Not at all. Plenty of the group aren't. Varanasi is worth seeing as a 3,000-year-old city that never stopped being lived in, whatever you do or don't believe.
Is it safe for solo women travellers?
Yes, and we take it seriously — same-gender room sharing by default, a captain with the group at all times, and we don't leave anyone to find their own way back through the lanes at night.
How much walking is there?
A fair amount, on uneven steps and narrow lanes. If stairs are difficult, tell us before you book and we'll be honest about whether it works.
What should I pack?
Clothes that cover shoulders and knees for temple visits, shoes you can slip off easily, and layers — mornings on the water are colder than you'd expect.
